A Mommy Moment on Monday

Life with kids can be chaos at times. Everyday seems like a challenge, but we get through it. Having a 4 year old and a 1 year old has taught me many things, above all it has taught me that laughter is the key to survival.

After a full day of running errands, grocery shopping, and a playdate, we arrived home at 6:30 pm. On a normal day we have music time at 6:00, dinnertime at 6:45, followed by bathtime, and bedtime. My son was clearly exhausted, but he loves music time so I didn't want to skip it. After 30 minutes of dancing I realize...it's 7:00...yikes! I hadn't even started on dinner, so I rush to the kitchen and start on the meatloaf. Meanwhile my son is throwing the biggest fit that I've ever seen. Mamamamamamamamamama! With my hands in a bowl full of raw meat my son is crying for me to pick him up. "I know honey, I'm almost done, just a minute." All of the sudden I feel him grab my shorts and pull as hard as he can. OMG! My hands are in 1 lb of raw meat and my son has just pulled my shorts down around my ankles. OMG!! Here I am, hands covered in raw meat and I can't get to the sink without stepping on my son. I quickly yell for my daughter to help me pull up my shorts, she runs into the room and bursts out in laughter.
Kaylee: Momma you're so funny, you're not wearing pants.
Me: Kaylee can you please help mommy pull up her pants?
Kaylee: (laughter)
Me: Kaylee pleeeeease!!!
Evan: (laughter)
Kaylee: I can see your bum! (laughter) Momma I can see your bum!
(Evan is now slapping me on the bum because he thinks it's funny)
Me: Please help me...I'll give you M&M's!
Kaylee: M&M's?! (laughter)
Finally, it occurs to me that this may be the funniest thing that has ever happened to me, so I laughed. Then I used my leg to move my son, so that I could manuever myself to the sink where I washed the raw meat off of my hands and pulled up my own pants. Meanwhile my son and daughter are still laughing hysterically, and so am I.

Life with kids is unpredictable, if you can't laugh about it, then you're missing it.

Eat, Pray, Love

Inspiring, funny, and full of wisdom. Reading this book is like lending an ear to your closest friend. At a time in her life when one might think Liz Gilbert had it all, she spent night after night weeping on her bathroom floor and praying for resolve. Not ready to give up her travels to live in someone else's suburban dream, she turned to God for the first time in her life. Years later Liz has suffered through a divorce, another heart shattering relationship, and a terrorist attack on her city. Filled with confusion and loss she falls into a depression so deep that she fears for her own life. In an attempt to rid herself of unhappiness and antidepressants, Liz sets out on journey of self discovery. She travels to Italy for pleasure, India for spirtual guidance, and Indonesia to find a balance between the two. This unpredictable memoir will have you laughing out loud one minute and wiping away tears in the next. Elizabeth Gilbert puts her heart and soul on each page and you can't help but love her for it. Eat, Pray, Love is a good read for the soul.

Family Cooking Night

Last month I had this fun idea that once a week my family would cook dinner together. In this fast paced world that we live in, I want my children to know that there will always be a time to slow down and enjoy being together. It's important to me that they understand the importance of family. Sunday night was our first official family cooking night and we decided to make spaghetti and salad. My little sous-chef was amazing, dinner was fantastic, and we had FUN!

The Time Traveler's Wife

If I had to describe this book in one word it would be.....transcendent. The Time Travelers Wife is a beautifully written novel that reminds us love is forever. Henry DeTamble has time traveled his whole life and because of it he has had to fight, steal, and survive by any means necessary. Never knowing when or where he's going, love was the last thing on his mind, until he met Clare Abshire. Clare gave him a reason to live and love. This seemingly impossible love takes us on a journey through time laughing, crying, and loving every page. Audrey Niffenegger finds words for feelings we thought were indescribable. In this sci-fi/romance novel, love is the only reality. This book should definitely be on your reading list for 2010.

The Carrie Diaries

This was a lighthearted, fun filled, get to know Carrie Bradshaw book. We all know Carrie as the author of a sexy little column in the New York Star, but we know nothing about Carrie's life before Sex and the City. Where did she come from? What was her family like? What made her decide to be a writer? Believe it or not, Carrie had friends before Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte. This book took me back to High School in the 70's with my best friend Carrie. All of the boy troubles, friends turned frenemies, even the mean girl that we all hated. Just like us, Carrie went through it all. Every experience pushing her a little closer to New York City. For Sex and the City fans....this is a must read!
